Rumor has it... there was A TON OF DRAMA with RCS in August 2015!!!
Its tough for me to know where to begin with explaining the RCS drama, especially since I wasn't a part of RCS for very long. From the best of my knowledge, here is how the RCS got started:
- Awesome dude name Flammy did quite a bit for the Clash community back in the early days of CoC with guides and whatnot before that was really a thing
- Redditors interested in Clash start forming Reddit clans with Flammy leading the charge... the Reddit Clan System (RCS) is born. A set of guiding principles is used: All clans are equal in the system (no feeder clans). Be respectful and mature. Uniform application process with a password. Clan verification process. Etc.
- Flammy creates the r/clashofclans subreddit on Reddit on August 17, 2012 as a home for the RCS
- The number of clans and members in the RCS continues to grow for years despite Flammy moving on to other games and new moderators taking over the sub and RCS
- All is well...
The RCS would have been fine and dandy except there were two major events (in my opinion) that were never properly addressed at the time:
- The r/clashofclans sub outgrew the RCS. The solution by the mods didn't address the issue:
* The CoC sub transformed more into a CoC sub (as the name suggests!) rather than a CoC sub for RCS. This is due to interest from many non-RCS Redditors and clans * Non-RCS Redditors didn't feel the love on the CoC sub. As a result, many RCS posts receive negative feedback, which created RCS/non-RCS tension on the CoC sub * The RCS clans make their own sub on August 20, 2014 by creating r/redditclansystem to give RCS clans a place to post without the drama from non-RCS Redditors. This is a band-aid for the problem * The RCS sub doesn't see the same content or activity as the CoC sub, so many members of the RCS still use the CoC sub * Some preferential treatment is still given to the RCS on the CoC sub with links to their sub and RCS-only recruitment posts. The reason being that the CoC sub was originally the RCS's home... * The non-RCS Redditors occassionally huff and puff about the strong ties still being there but nothing changes... because.... * The moderators of the RCS are the SAME moderators of CoC... no action is ever taken to include the rest of the CoC community in the moderation team... |
- Clan Wars is released and it changes the CoC gameplay!!
* The RCS mod team is slow to keep up with the changes. Some RCS clans become serious about wars while some choose to remain social. Note: the majority of the RCS mods are leaders in RCS clans that aren't serious about wars * Serious RCS war clans begin to ask for changes to the system. The RCS refuses. The argument being along the lines of "If it ain't broke..." and "Let's not reinvent the wheel..." * RCS allows clans to slap on new titles such as competitive or warring to make clans think they are special. Another band-aid. * Reddit Kings makes Reddit Royals their sister clan as an exception to the RCS sister/feeder rule. At some point, this results in them leaving the RCS * Clans that are serious about wars again ask the moderators to revisit the rules for feeders as a way of testing new recruits without hurting their war progress. RCS mods refuse. * Clans like RT and Lithium begin to leave the RCS the end of February 2015 and form sister/feeders to remain competitive in clan wars. Over the following half year, a few more clans follow and leave RCS. * RCS creates Reddit Bootcamp, a shared feeder for the RCS war clans to prevent any more war clans from leaving. War clans express dissatisfaction in the way Bootcamp is run and in it being yet another band-aid to the problem |
TL;DR: RCS is formed and grows. RCS does bare minimum to keep up with the changes in the sub and from clan wars
